Dr. Hampton received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from St. Olaf College in 1984 and pursued graduate study in Chemistry at Stanford University from 1984 - 1989. In 1989, he was awarded two successive one-year Dr. Chaim Weizmann Postdoctoral Fellowships to perform postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology. From 1991 through 2001, Dr. Hampton was a faculty member in the Chemistry Department at the University of New Mexico (Assistant Professor, 1991 - 1997, Associate Professor, 1997 - 2001). In 2001, he became one of the thirteen "founding faculty" members at California State University (CSU) Channel Islands and was promoted to Full Professor in 2002. Since starting as a faculty member at CSU Channel Islands, Dr. Hampton served two years as the Chair of the Liberal Studies Program (2002 - 2004), the Interim Director of Faculty Development (2004 - 2005), and the Chair of the Chemistry Program (2005 - 2007). Dr. Hampton was the recipient of the Maxiumus 2004: Students Honoring the Greatest Faculty Member of CSUCI presented by the Associated Students organization. He was also a recipient of a 1996 Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Teaching and Service to Students presented by the Alumni Association of the University of New Mexico.
